"Keep the knowledge of the event or issue, but lose the pain."
— Laney Rosenzweig, MS, LMFT, Founder of Accelerated Resolution Therapy
You may have already tried therapy. You understand your patterns. You can name what happened. What you cannot do is make the feeling go away. The anxiety, the sleeplessness, the shame that follows a trigger. These are not flaws in who you are.
It is not a mindset problem. It has a root.
That is what we find. That is what we treat.
Who comes to see me for EMDR therapy
People seeking EMDR for trauma, anxiety, depression, PTSD, and insomnia in California
People come to me from all different starting points. What brings them here is the same: they are done with just getting by, and they want to actually get better.
The high achiever who holds it all together publicly
Successful, capable, the person others lean on. In private, a relentless inner critic, deep people-pleasing patterns, and a growing exhaustion from keeping up the performance.
The person who has done therapy before
They understand their patterns. They can name what happened. What they cannot do is make it stop, and they are ready for something that goes deeper than insight.
The person who doesn't know why they feel this way
They did not have an obviously hard life. And yet the anxiety is real, the depression is real. Often, what looks like anxiety or depression turns out to have a root we can actually find and treat.
The woman who is done healing alone
She is ready for a room where people actually understand, where she does not have to explain herself from the beginning, where healing feels shared instead of solitary.
The person who has tried everything for their sleep and is still exhausted
They have done the sleep hygiene, the apps, the medications. Insomnia has been going on for years, sometimes decades. What they have not yet addressed is what the nervous system is still holding onto — and that is where the real work begins.

Meet Anita Kaplan, LCSW
I knew I wanted to work with trauma before I fully understood what trauma actually was. I wrote a report on PTSD in seventh grade, had a psychiatrist for a father, and grew up around mental health the way other kids grew up around sports. It was simply part of how I saw the world.
What drew me specifically to EMDR was personal. In 2014, I was on the treadmill when my young daughter walked behind it while it was still moving. She suffered third-degree burns on the back of her leg. She is older now and she is healthy. But in the weeks after it happened, I was not okay. I was hypervigilant in a way that would not turn off, and the nightmares kept coming. I sought out an EMDR therapist, and the nightmares stopped.
I did not just read about post-traumatic growth — I lived it. Trauma can become the thing that clarifies what you are meant to do. For me, it did both.
This is what I bring into every session: not a script or a protocol I am running through, but genuine presence with the person in front of me and a steady belief that they are going to be okay.
I customize EMDR therapy to meet the needs of the person in front of me — your therapy is personalized exclusively for you.
EMDR therapy and EMDR intensives in Westlake Village, CA
EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. EMDR helps your brain finish processing experiences it got stuck on. Trauma does not just live in memory — it lives in the body and is replayed in our current relationships. It shows up as reactions that feel bigger than the moment in front of you, because part of you is still responding to something from the past.
Together, we will create a plan and find solutions so you can feel more present and joyful in your life. We will work collaboratively so you have a clear understanding of what is happening, why these symptoms are showing up, and how to move through life without feeling triggered or stuck in anxious loops.
EMDR Certification vs. EMDR Training in California
Anita is EMDR certified — not just trained. Here is what that difference means for you:
There is a real difference between a therapist who is EMDR trained and one who is EMDR certified. Certification means years of advanced work beyond initial training, handling complex cases, dissociation, and the moments in session that need more than a protocol. It means being able to attune to where a client's nervous system is and knowing how to handle a multitude of presentations that show up in the room.
My office is located in Westlake Village, California, easily accessible from Calabasas, Agoura Hills, Thousand Oaks, and Newbury Park.
