Meet Melanie Maddox
Feeling emotionally and physically overwhelmed is a common experience, and it's important to recognize that you're not alone in this. Whether it's the pressures of work or school, financial stress, family responsibilities, coping with major life changes, or dealing with loss, these challenges can start to feel like an unbearable weight to carry alone.
You might have noticed various signs of distress, such as difficulty focusing, increased irritability, decreased energy and motivation, disruptions in sleep or appetite, and a persistent sense of nervousness or tension. You are noticing physical symptoms like stomach or chest discomfort, headaches, and muscle tension, along with a constant stream of worries and racing thoughts about the past or future. This emotional burden can also lead to a loss of interest in activities and withdrawal from social interactions, which others may notice in your mood, engagement, or energy levels.
These struggles with mental health can extend beyond the individual, affecting family dynamics and interpersonal relationships. Within families, unresolved issues can lead to breakdowns in communication and escalating conflicts, often manifesting in children's behavior changes, worries, physical symptoms, sleep disturbances, and academic performance declines. Similarly, in romantic partnerships, challenges arise around communication, trust, intimacy, conflict resolution, and navigating shared responsibilities like finances, household chores, and parenting, creating cycles of repetitive disagreements and feeling like giving up.
But there's hope. Together, we can work through these challenges, untangle the complexities of your experiences, and find ways to mend frayed bonds and build stronger connections.
My promise to you is a safe, non-judgmental space, with you as the expert on your journey and me walking alongside offering concrete research-backed strategies. I am trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and also Gottman Method Couples Therapy and can offer you specific strategies for healing.
My background in early intervention research and personal experiences with mental health struggles in my family have fueled my passion for supporting others. Inspired by my own mentors and mental health providers, I hope to guide my own clients towards tapping into their resilience, finding genuine joy in witnessing their healing and growth.
Outside of therapy, you'll find me exploring the outdoors with my partner and our two dogs.
